Sublime magazine is offering an epic crossing, on horseback, over the Andes Mountains in Argentina, February 2019 (summer season), inviting just 10 people to journey with us on a personalised adventure.

Sublime Magazine founder Damian Santamaria, together with adventure photographer Domenico Pugliese, will join the group. The aim of the trip will be to raise money for a street children’s charity in San Juan, a district located east of the Andes Mountains.

Mendoza4We are also offering the opportunity to learn new photography skills under the guidance of a professional. A selection of the best photography from the trip will be published on the Sublime Magazine website.

The Argentine Cordillera de los Andes, Mendoza, is known for its stunning landscape. This amazing horseback trail journeys through the wild Andes Mountains chain. Its mesmerising glacial valleys, rivers, lakes and idyllic waterfalls are not to be missed. Dare to enter this magical part of the world and learn about the culture of the place, getting to know the traditions, the people and the legends, told around a campfire over wine and delicious traditional Argentinian food.

ITINERARY February 2019

Flight: London to Buenos Aires and on to Mendoza.

Travel: horseback expedition. Our guides and gauchos will be crucial in helping with the horses and cooking. Campfire; overnight stays in tents or under the stars.

Day 1: Argentina
Arrival at the city of Malargüe, Mendoza. Transfer by private transport to Paraje Las Loicas, 100km from Malargüe; meeting with the team for explanation on how to prepare your horse and pack, something you will have to do every morning. Don’t worry – your guides will always be on hand to help, should you need it. We then start our horseback ride through the Andes Mountains. First ride is approximately three hours to our camp, Puesto Villarino. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Argentina
Breakfast. We continue our trip through La Pampa El Galope. Lunch in La Vega del Plaster. Then we continue on to El Cajon del Rezago through lush vegas with fantastic views. From this point, you can take unique pictures of the amazing landscape. We will spend the night in the heart of the Cordillera, where we will set up camp; snack. Dinner and bedtime.

Day 3: Argentina
Breakfast. We leave heading west through valleys, plains and heights, with steep descents, arriving at the Post Sepulveda where we will have lunch. Later we will continue our journey to Laguna Baya. Set up camp and rest. Dinner and bedtime.

Day 4: Argentina/Chile
Breakfast. Our course takes us to the Chilean border landmark where we will descend to a heavenly lake, where we can take photos, celebrate and have lunch. Later on we will move through a glacial desert plain until we reach an incredible waterfall nestled in the deepest part of the mountain range. We will unsaddle, rest and set up camp. Dinner and bedtime.

Day 5: Argentina
Breakfast. Trekking, recreation time. A new day beckons, featuring several hours of riding, but through a wonderful landscape. We will pass through El Cajon de Las Pomas and have lunch. Continuing west, we will set up camp in El Cerro de las Piedras Vayas, have dinner and then go to bed. This is our last night in the mountains! 

Day 6: Argentina
Breakfast. Last part of the route, where we reach Paso Pehuenche. Final contact with our faithful travelling companion, el caballo, the horse – our private vehicle will be waiting for us. Last photos and return. We pass through Las Loicas once again, and continue to Malargüe to stay at the best hotel in the city. Farewell dinner, where we can talk about our experience.

Day 7: Argentina
Breakfast. End of our trip. Transfer to the airport. Flight: Mendoza to Buenos Aires and London.
